Overview

The View-Master format is perhaps the most widely deployed stereo format in the world. Seven stereo pairs are placed in diametric opposition around the edge of a disk. Each image is about 11mm x 11mm.

History

View-Master was originally launched by Sawyers in 1939 at the New York World's Fair. It combined the then new Kodachrome and stereo pairs to produce life-like images.

View-Master was acquired by Tyco Toys in 1989.

Mattel acquired the Tyco Toys brand in 1997. Mattel assigned View-Master to its Fisher-Price division. Creative offices are located in East Aurora, NY.
